Long June weekend – Corpus Christi in Warsaw
Corpus Christi is yet another opportunity for us to enjoy a weekend which is longer than a usual one, thus, we can organise a little sightseeing trip, for example to Warsaw. When is Corpus Christi in 2023? How many days off should you take to have the longest weekend possible? What places should you visit when coming to the capital? Where should you book accommodation?
WHEN IS THE CORPUS CHRISTI IN 2023?
The long June weekend is associated with the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, which is commonly known as Corpus Christi. It falls 60 days after Easter and is a public holiday in Poland. In 2023, we shall celebrate Corpus Christi on 8 June, which is a Thursday, thus, take one day off at work, on Friday after Corpus Christi, and you’ll get a 4-day weekend.
WHAT KIND OF ATTRACIONS DOES WARSAW OFFER IN JUNE?
If you’re coming to Warsaw in June, you can rest assured that your long weekend will literally burst with attractions. For instance, you can pay a visit to the Warsaw Rising Museum. It is an interactive facility located in a former tramway power station. The next part of your trip can be a stroll along the Royal Route, i.e. the most representative part of the city, which connects former royal residences. It starts near the Castle Square, then proceeds through the Krakowskie Przedmieście and the Royal Baths Park, then goes up to Wilanów.
An integral part of your stay in Warsaw is a visit to the Old Town, which, as you may have heard, has been listed as the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The place enraptures you with its multi-coloured stones and the romantic ambience of its narrow streets. You can find the official symbols of Warsaw here, that is, the Warsaw Mermaid, the Barbican and the Royal Castle, which houses paintings by Rembrandt and canvases by Bellotto. Other recommended attractions of the capital are: the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, the Palace of Culture and Science and the Copernicus Science Centre.
